Delegation. It's the way to make others better, and make you a better creative leader. So why is it so damn hard to do?
The key to having the confidence to delegate is having people you trust to delegate to.
Fact is, for years as creatives, we've had to fiercely protect our ideas and ways of thinking. So, asking others to do what you would normally do can be tough.
But consider this. Delegation will give you the time and the ability to focus on the bigger picture and allow others the ability to learn new skills. From an agency point of view, it will improve efficiency, productivity, management and build team trust. Perhaps best of all, you get to see how others think, and you get to see them grow. With the increasing push for diversity and inclusion, hell, you may even learn a thing or two from the people you delegate to!
Still struggling? This may help.
Pick the right person - who is best suited, has time, has passion, has the commitment to learn? Set exceptions, responsibilities, timelines, check-in and feedback points and stick to them. Make sure they have the right resources and environment to be successful. Above all, don't get attached to the outcome of how you would do it
For me this quote from John C. Maxwell, author of Developing the Leaders around you is gold.
"If you want to do a small things right, do them yourself.
If you want to do great things and make a big impact, learn to delegate."
